Every year, millions of pairs of athletic shoes are thrown away, clogging landfills and wasting a lot of good material.
Reuse-A-Shoe, part of Let Me Play campaign, is one of Nike’s longest-running environmental and community programs, where worn-out athletic shoes of any brand are collected, processed and recycled into material used in sports surfaces like basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, running tracks and playgrounds for young people around the world.
You can turn your old kicks into new places to play your game.
Reuse-A-Shoe has recycled more than 20 million pairs of athletic shoes and created more than 250 sport surfaces; giving thousands of young people access to new playgrounds and athletic facilities around the world.
First, take your worn out athletic shoe (of any brand) and go to the nearest Reuse-A-Shoe drop-off location. There are locations at some Nike Stores, other retail stores, athletic clubs, schools and colleges. In the U.S., Reuse-A-Shoe has partnerships with members of the National Recycling Coalition, and have Reuse-A-Shoe programs and locations around the world, in Canada, the U.K., Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and Japan. Next, your shoes are shipped to a Reuse-A-Shoe processing facilities – one in Oregon, USA and the other in Belgium – to be ground up into a material called Nike Grind.
